The Khan Academy
Check out the video above to see Salman Khan's presentation at the TED conference. I blogged about him here. The back story is that Mr. Khan created video tutorials to share with his cousin Nadia whom he was tutoring in math, and his videos went viral. He began recording more and more videos after the positive feedback, and now he runs a non-profit that shares videos and makes education free. Salman Khan is a former hedge fund guy with three degrees from MIT and an MBA from Harvard. If you go to the Khan Academy website, you can see all the subjects that he teaches, including astronomy, economics, chemistry, physics, math, etc. It's amazing how much this guy knows.
If you have a kid, sign him/her up. If you do, your child can watch the tutorials and complete the exercises, and the system remembers and charts your child's progress. I just signed up my four-year-old son yesterday through my gmail account, and he loves it. It's not often I say that you have to do something, but if you're a parent who wants access to a great (and free) educational tool, you have to do this!
