Project Golden Pig

As many of you guys know, this year is the Famous "Year of the Golden Pig". It only comes about every 600 years, and it is believed that any child born in this year will have a wealthy and successful life. My wife and I did not plan that our baby was going to be born this year, but it was by good fortune that we are. Currently, there are tons of couples right now trying to get pregnant so they can have their baby in 2007. They expect the average birth rate in Korea to increase by 10%.

Are we really that superstitious and believe in Chinese folklore. These couples who are trying have a few months to go before it will be too late. My friend is currently in that situation, and he calls their trying to get pregnant "Project Golden Pig". Supplies for "Project Golden Pig" are ovulation kit, man and woman naked and... I don't think I need to go into more detail. Do you all really believe in this stuff, and is anyone else out there working on "Project Golden Pig"?

Um...yes, any little bit helps, or so my mom says. We're not working on a "Project Golden Pig" but one of the tidbits that helped us make a decision to have another baby a few years back was my mom's consultation of her Chinese horoscope book. (Which she looks through anytime there is a major decision that must be made. Our wedding was in limbo because she wanted to consult a number of horoscope books and monks as to the best date for our wedding for example.) She told me 2004 was a great year for me to get pregnant, and so we did. =)

I think your math is wrong. It will be the year of the pig from 2/18/07 to 2/07/08. So a couple wanting to have a pig has four or five months, not two.

Anonymous,
You are right. I was not going by the Chinese calender. Correction made, thanks.

i actually heard that the whole golden pig thing is a fake...that it's not the GOLDEN pig...just a normal pig year and that it's a ploy to get people buying lots of golden pig stuff...where can we verify such information?

Hard to say if it's true or false, but it couldn't hurt, right? Best of luck to your friends on Operation Golden Pig. Sounds so military...

My mom mentioned something about the Golden Pig. Am almost tempted to try for the third child now. Ha. Am so easily swayed by superstition and folklore.

hmm, I don't question the luckiness but I don't think its a 600 year cycle. As I recall, the 12 Chinese zodiac animals go on a 12 year cycle. Add to that there is the full 60 year cycle which covers metal, wood, water, fire and earth.

I looked at a chart for the last hundred years or so and there was a fire pig in the late 40s.

...and I just heard that the REAL golden pig is still 60 years from now???
