BENTO CROSSES OVER

What’s for Lunch? Enter the Bento Box, a Touch of Japan - NYTimes.com

This is a cute story but here's my sneaking suspicion...given that the NYT is one of the constant sources of anxiety for status-conscious, upwardly mobile parents/couples (and moms in particular), I just imagine this will set off a small wave of women thinking, "now I have to master making bentos for my kids/husband? FML."

Just saying.

haha! @ bigWOWO!

funny though you should wonder if this is going to be the next 'fashionable' thing - i wondered the same thing after reading it in the NY Times no less.

OK you just forced me to look up what a bento box is. Feel a little like a doofus for not knowing. They certainly look yummy, when filled with traditional sorts of food, but complicated. I hope it's not going to be a new trend though. Trends tend to kill the uniqueness of an experience. It would be a shame. Nevertheless, I would like to try to put one together -- of course I'd have to learn some sushi first :-)

are bento boxes going to replace the Old Chinese Nanny as the cheap and easy way to show you care about Eastern philosophies? rad!
