Halloween costumes for the happily assimilated

Forget martial arts uniforms and geisha princess dresses this year— celebrate your kid's biculturalism the Pottery Barn Kids way! Heh.

The stylist on this costume's photo shoot had to have been an Asian American with a snarky sense of humor, right? Please tell me that was the case, b/c otherwise... Oy.

Now, what I wanna know is, where are my extremely expensive giant coconut, apple, and, of course, chocolate-and-creme sandwich cookie costumes to go with this one? [I kid, I kid!]

Yes, Halloween costume season is upon us (two months out from a holiday, that's when shopping starts, right?), and for conscientious anti-sexist, anti-racist parents, things can only go downhill from here. Happy Halloween!

Ahhhh - the stylist was probably clueless. I always hated that banana reference directed at Asians... "yellow on the outside, but white on the inside". Haven't heard that insult for a long time. Putting that aside, what kind of costumes are all the RD families choosing this year???

Oh man...that's one of those "family" jokes you keep in house.

That's pretty funny--I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentional.

But that banana costume is DAMN cute. Do they have one in pineapple?

I haven't been too inspired since that one year LN was the energizer bunny. Maybe this year she'll be a butterly carrying a hole punch with arrows on her wings.

halloween costumes are better when you wait until the night before to think about them. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have a post up that this pic would be perfect for, so I'm borrowing it if you do not mind:)

*I would've dressed as a twinkie...Wah wah wah...that was horrible. But I remember when I was growing up, I was told I was either a twinkie or an egg. Decisions...decisions

Um I'm more of a lemon, with a bit of white right below the surface, followed by a deeper glassy sour yellowness, finally ending with an inner pith of whitishness but surrounded by little studs of beige-yellow seeds. Yeah work that one out.

Many of you are probably too young to remember the plastic poncho with the name of who you were supposed to be written across the front and the plastic mask with the rubber bands and the eye holes...

Ah, those were the days...

Too funny. Though in a 'lets not talk about it in public' kind of way...
