Baby Macks

So I'm walking past this local boutique that sells "hip" baby wear and I see this onesie from the Urban Smalls people at reads:

"PIMPIN' AIN'T EASY"

Suffice to say, I was a little aghast for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is how I can't stand how goddamn fucking ironic pop culture is these days when people think it's "cute" (as opposed to really pathetic) to reclaim icons and statements from subcultures they have no real clue about and then make them into slogans. I'm not saying it's as bad as say, the war in Iraq or anything but seriously, what kind of dumb ass parent is going to clothe their baby in a onesie that basically says:

"EXPLOITING WOMEN FOR THEIR SEXUAL LABOR THROUGH VIOLENCE AND/OR EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION IS CHALLENGING."

Why even stop there? Why not offer up t-shirts with any of the following:
"Future Stripper"
"Forget the Bottle, I Want Heroin"
"Britney Is My Mom"

Um, P.L..? I'm sure you thought you were making those up, but have you seen this? http://www.tshirthell.com/babyhell.shtml
And frighteningly, I bet you could find worse stuff on CafePress... :(

Hey guys,

This is Jeff Yang, Asian Pop columnist for SFGate.com--just wanted to say that this blog rocks.

I'm pretty sure I got an email about it some weeks ago, and of course, like the toddler-tweaked lamebrain that I am, I accidentally deleted the email. Ugh. Luckily, AAM is more organized than I am.

That said, I'm definitely going to try to give love to your Band of Brothers in my next column, if space and editor allow (and I'll certainly do so in my INSTANT YANG museletter).

Secondly, while I don't currently daddyblog (except in the pages of my sort-of-exhibitionist column), if you guys accept occasional guest posts, or even need another Asian dad for your rotation, let me know...I'd be honored.

I just checked out the link from DISL and omygosh. That's horrible. And that with the devil's horns and red eyes?

Heh. Nina gave me an acronym. I'm a real blogger now! ;) Can I pronounce like "Diesel," as in Vin, my rainbow-baby brother in the tribe of the racially ambigious?

Ah yes, as we Generation Xers and Yers start having babies, we will embrace our ignorance of subcultures with silly baby (and adult) apparel. It's amazing what consumerism has done to culture....
